Higher Education in Pakistan: Challenges and Prospects

Higher Education has been recognized as one of the major agents of socioeconomic development by all of the developed and most of the developing world. Although, theoretically this fact is very much recognized in Pakistan, yet it has not received the deserved attention and focus. The purpose of this research paper is to analyze the higher education system in Pakistan, explore the organization of higher education, and highlight the role and performance of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. Against this backdrop the paper then attempts to evaluate the challenges faced by higher education system in the country and presents suitable suggestions for improvement. ______
